Vision Onward's name has meaning both for us and for the people we hope to
impact. For
us, it means we move beyond apathy, to caring and beyond talk, to
action to ensure that we pass on a legacy that is pleasing to God. For
the people we hope to impact, it means that they will no longer be
living their lives for themselves but setting a new legacy for their
children and their grandchildren.
The mission of Vision Onward is to be a vehicle for the unifying
ministry of the Holy Spirit serving communities in obedience to the
call to "Therefore go and make disciples..." (Matthew 28:19).
The game plan for Vision Onward will include the following:
- We see a passion ignited that brings unity among churches, to share
time, treasures and talents between the west and east side on an
ongoing basis.
- We see soccer, baseball and softball parks within walking distance of
west side kids. We see sports camps being run by local youth and adults
with a passion to serve kids.
- We see a free dance studio for kids who want desperately to dance but
don't have the money or the transportation to get across town.
- We see education and training classes for moms and dads—managing
finances, acquiring job skills, interviewing skills, parenting skills,
and so on. We see tutoring for kids.
- We see car clinics, where volunteers from automotive and body shops not
only fix a car for free but teach the residents to do it themselves.
- We see a microeconomics program which provides a job opportunity and a
low-cost car in recognition of completing education and training
classes.
- We see a tuition-free Christian school devoted to providing outstanding
education for the kids of the families that are going through the
education and training classes.
All of these efforts will gain us favor in an effort to provide
one-on-one discipleship for moms and dads, that will create a
God-pleasing legacy for their kids, and for generations to come.
Many on the west side are unable to see past next month, next week or
even today. Vision Onward exists to help individuals look past today
and realize that each of us represents generations. We all have a
legacy. WHAT WILL YOUR LEGACY BE in regard to the west side?
